"Road Trips Vol. 4 No.3 Denver ‘73” 11/20 & 21/ 1973 3CD's "
www.RealGoneMusic.com

1973 was a evolving time for the Grateful Dead, Pigpen passed earlier in 1973, and thankfully the band is flowing with just one drummer, Keith Godchaux has also risen to their (by far) best keyboardist, as Garcia, Lesh, Weir, Kreutzmann and the Godchaux’s mine new tunes with blazing and expandable/elastic jams that would be nearly their finest of their then meteoric career.

The first set of 11/21/73 is a solid and varied assortment of tunes, including several southwestern sagebrush sounds from the likes of (“Jack Straw,” “Me and My Uncle,” and “Mexicali Blues.”) Though their opening set concludes with a beautifully blossomed “Weather Report Suite,” that closes with a seventies contemporary and modern (Concorde like/speed of sound breaking) sonic boom.

The second set slowly simmers with their opening “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” that nicely unravels into “Playing in the Band” to a heartwarming “El Paso,” back to “Playing in the Band,” to a gorgeous “Wharf Rat,” back again to “Playing in the Band,” to “Morning Dew.” Whew!

Additionally there are still miles ahead on disc 3: with “Truckin’,” that evolves into a short “Nobody’s Fault but Mine,” into a sweet “Goin’ Down the Road Feeling Bad,” onto a rousing “One More Saturday Night.” Encoring with a tender “Uncle John’s Band” that closes with a fiery conclusion.

With CD space available on disc 3; the prior night 11/20/73 Denver show (welcome and resilient addition) is a lengthy nonstop “Truckin,’ into “The Other One,” that lands onto a luscious Stellar Blue.” This three-piece segment/extravaganza weighs in at nearly forty minutes of delectable ear-candy that will leave you wanting for more and more.

As per usual the CD booklet/liner notes add details about the show(s) with era period photos. All mastered to HDCD specs for maximum clout and sonic clarity.
